KIN : a group of people of a similar nature
FOLK : the traditional music of the people in a country
FESTIVAL : a periodic celebration having a specific focus
Using music, media, art, and activism, Kin Folk Festival
and its companion projects develop and support initiatives
that foster connection, community, creativity, and collaboration.
That’s the what… and the how… bringing people together with great music for great causes.
The why? We are kin with every living thing on this planet, and many issues – like our dwindling environmental resources, wasteful food system, and raging economic inequality – are related. If people can’t afford to feed their kids, they can’t afford to care about the planet. And, if we decimate the environment, we destroy our food source. At that point, all the money in the world won’t matter. Economic refugees are, very often, environmental refugees.
The who? Artists and activists. Together. Artists have long been the visionaries of society, recognizing that the world extends far beyond the horizon. They are the trumpeters of progress, using their stage to speak of truths not often spoken and the warriors of righteousness, giving of themselves and their craft for the betterment of the world, for the benefit of all.
Kin Folk Festival is artist-driven active-ism because…
We can do better.
We must do better.
We will do better.
